GOVERNING BODY

This is the highest legal body to oversee and guide the workings of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. The Abbot is the President of the Governing Body and is appointed by the Patron of the Monastery. The members are appointed by the Executive Council with due consultations with the Patron.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

The Executive Council is the apex administrative body which looks after the overall administration of the monastery in all respects. This body formulates the policies and guidelines on all matters concerning the functioning of the monastery – both academic and administrative  – and looks after the day to day running of the monastery. At the same time,  the Executive Council plans all the infrastructure needs, raises funding for projects, decides on admission of novices, and revises and reviews the curriculum of the school and higher studies and sets the vision and goals for the future. The Executive Council meets regularly on a monthly basis. The current Executive Council members are:

The CHODHE TASHI LHUNPO (CTL) ASSEMBLY

This is the largest administrative and consultative body of the monastery. Presided by the Abbot, the CTL Assembly meets three times in an academic year to discuss on issues outlined by the Executive Council. Besides the Executive Council members, all philosophy teachers and senior monks are members of this Assembly. Resolutions and suggestions in the Assembly are taken up by the Executive Council for further action into policies and decisions.

OTHER KEY POSITIONS IN MONASTIC EDCUCATION:

CTL School Principal: The Principal is responsible for the running of the Monastic School. Currently the school has a strength of 160 monk students. Besides administering the school on a day to day basis, he recruits and appoints staff and teachers depending on the need for each academic year. He designs, reviews and revises the academic curriculum and co-curricular programs in consultation with the Executive Council and ensures smooth implementation in co-ordination with the school staff. He sets the academic program for each year and ensures efficient and effective implementation of the same. He controls and conducts the school examinations as per the assessment and evaluation scheme and ensures proper promotion system for the school.  

Guardian-cum-Teachers (Shak-Gyen): All the monks have a Guardian-cum-Teacher who looks after them akin to their own parents.  The Shak-Gyen is crucial in the growth and education of a monk. Like a parent, he provides everything that the monk needs and ensures that he is on track as far as his learning in the monastery is concerned. When a monk behaves in a wayward manner, the monastery questions Shak=Gyen as he is fully responsible and accountable. Buddhist Philosophy Teachers: The Buddhist Philosophy teachers are pivotal in the quality of the monastic education. They are the highly qualified and respected team of teachers in the monastery because they have come through the monastic education system – distinguishing themselves as scholars of the highest repute. They are assigned classes at the Higher Buddhist Studies levels  – all the way to Kachen Lharampa.
