Tashi
Lhunpo Monastery is located in Bylakuppe, the largest
Tibetan settlement in exile. It comes under Mysore
District of Karnataka State in South India.
Monastery
is two hour drive from the city of Mysore and five hour
drive from Bangalore city. Nearest airport will be
Bangalore to reach monastery. It is International
airport. There is also an Indian Government train
service from Bangalore to Mysore city. The nearest town
to the monastery is Kushalnagar.
Important:
All the
four Tibetan Refugee settlements in South India: 1.
Bylakuppe, 2. Hunsur, 3. Kollegal and 4. Mudgod, comes
under the protected area. There fore it is MUST for all
the foreign visitors to have Protected Area Permit
(PAP).
The
concerned Indian Government and Local officers will
regularly check the area and if found guilty, they will
take action according to law.
The
process of obtaining PAP is quite long; it will take
four to five month's time. One has to apply for this
permit direct from:

Bureau office to submit application on your behalf.

Finally,
you must submit your application form duly filled with 4
passport size photo, 4 photocopy of your passport and
inform us that you had applied for PAP to visit Tashi
Lhunpo Monastery.

Where to stay?
There is a
guest house in Tashi Lhunpo monastery, where you can
stay if you have PAP. We have 3 rooms with attached
bathroom and 8 rooms without attached bath rooms. All
the rooms have two beds. It is with in the compound of
the monastery.
Rooms with
attached bath rooms will cost you: 300/- (Indian Rupees)
Rooms with
out bath room and have to use common bath room cost you:
200/- (Indian Rupees)
There is
no hotel facility around us. You have to travel around 3
km to have nice food. Monastery will offer you food,
which our monks daily have.
