This is the most
important section of the monastery; this institution
gives full Buddhist education to the monks to study. It
is necessary to study for 16 years to complete the
course in religious education. The course includes the
arts of healing, dialectics, Sanskrit, arts and crafts,
metaphysics and the Philosophy of religion. Of these
five higher subjects, the most important are the
philosophy of religion and dialectics.
They are divided into
five branches known by their Sanskrit names of
Prajnaparamita – The perfection of wisdom(6 years);
Madhaymika – the Middle Path, which urges the
avoidance of extreme (2 years); Vinaya – the
canon of monastic Discipline (2 years); Abhidharma
– Metaphysics (2 years) and Pramana – Logic,
developing mental powers and dialectics (4 years).
